4K Blu-ray Discs and Players Arriving in 2015

The Blu-ray Disc Association announced plans for their long awaited 4K Blu-ray Disc specification at the IFA Electronics Trade Show in Berlin this week. The group will begin licensing the specification in Spring or Summer 2015, with the first 4K Blu-ray players and discs shipping by the holiday season of 2015, according to Victor Matsuda, chairman of the Blu-ray Disc Association global promotions committee.

Samsung Ultra HDTV’s Arrive This Month

Samsung has officially announced availability for their 2014 Ultra HDTV lineup at a press conference held in the Guggenheim Museum in New York City (What is Ultra HD?). The company will offer something for everyone, including both curved and flat versions of their Ultra HDTV’s and Full HDTV’s in a variety of screen sizes. The TV’s will start shipping in the United States and Europe at the end of this month through various retailers. Read more to see the lineup.

The name Kurt Angle is synonymous with professional wrestling and more recently, MMA — but the Olympic gold medalist has also been building up a very healthy resume of acting roles, which has led to his selection for the leading role in the new Hollywood TV Drama “Emergency:LA” (IMDB). Kurt has been cast as Sgt. Gabe Mandell of LAPD Downtown, and the series follows the day-to-day adventures of his department, “Station 77” of LA City Fire Department, and “Trauma One” Emergency Medical Center.

Amazon Studios to Film 2014 Originals in 4K Ultra HD

Amazon has announced that it will film all of their 2014 original series, including any new pilots, in 4K Ultra HD. 4K is the latest and most advanced in high definition video, utilizing displays with an aspect ratio of at least 16:9 and capable of showcasing video at a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels or 8.3 million pixels.
