Vizio Launches Affordable 4K Ultra HDTVs

VIZIO today announced the availability of their much anticipated P-Series 4K Ultra HDTV lineup to the U.S. market. The P-Series will be available in 50-, 55-, 60-, 65-, and 70-inch screen sizes, starting at $999.99. Amazon is accepting pre-orders for the Ultra HDTVs today.

The P-Series 4K TVs offer 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160), which contains four times to pixel density of standard or “Full HD” televisions (What is Ultra HD?). As with most other Ultra HDTVs on the market, the P-Series features a Full HD-to-Ultra HD upscaling engine, dubbed “Spacial Scaling Engine.” The TV’s will include 4K streaming support from Netflix, and later this year, Amazon Instant Video and UltraFlix. They will also include the HEVC/H.265 codec, 802.11ac WiFi, HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0, and playback at 60fps (What is HEVC?).

“The North America UHD TV market is forecast to grow to more than 800k units in 2014, with a substantial portion of that growth occurring in the second half of the year,” said Paul Gagnon, Director of Global TV Research for NPD DisplaySearch. “Even with the strong growth in 2014, the UHD market will more than quadruple in 2015 as prices become more accessible to mainstream consumers.”
