Sony has just announced a PlayStation event on February 20th, 2013 at 6pm EST. The details are not clear, all they’ve given us is “See the future,” and a mysterious video with some abstract references to the classic PlayStation symbols and possibly some next-generation hardware. Are they alluding to a possible announcement of the PlayStation 4?

Invitations have been sent to Sony investors, so the event is likely to be a big announcement — PlayStation 4 or not. Sony has a history of unveiling hardware well before any kind of release, and sometimes releasing hardware well after its competitors. After all, the PlayStation 3 was released one year after Microsoft’s XBOX 360.

Some have suggested that the next-generation console will possess 4K Ultra HD capability, especially after seeing the mysterious “4K” device at CES. This news also comes hot on the heels of Sony announcing that it will remaster Breaking Bad in 4K Ultra HD.

Is Sony gearing up for a full Ultra HD takeover? We’ll just have to wait and see what their big surprise is. In the meantime, share your comments below.
